Powering Through with Powered Tutoring

Powered Tutoring started from Mohammed’s own experiences with tutoring - both as a tutor, and as a student who was tutored. When they were tutored, they saw how much personalised help could make a difference in understanding and confidence. Later, as a tutor themselves, they realized how rewarding it was to help others succeed. Those experiences inspired Mohammed to create a service that provides tailored support, helping students overcome challenges and reach their full potential. It all began in summer 2024 when they had a lot of free time to make their vision a reality with the goal of making learning more effective and empowering for every student.

Mohammed received the £500 Start-Up Fund grant to cover marketing costs and other administrative charges.

 

What are the best and worst aspects of running your own business?

Mohammed told us that: “The best part of running Powered Tutoring has been the excitement of building something from the ground up. Setting it up was a fun challenge - figuring out the systems, creating a brand, and seeing it all come together. Most rewarding, though, is seeing students improve and gain confidence in their abilities: Knowing I’m making a real difference in their education feels incredible.” Mohammed spoke about the difficulties they faced, particularly around the intricacies of navigating a business with co-founders. They told us how crucial it is to consider who you are appointing as a co-founder and the potential impact this can have on your business. They said it is important to choose the right people to work with, who share similar values regarding building and growing a business; that addressing these challenges early on is essential to avoid unnecessary setbacks. They wish they knew this before starting Powered Tutoring.

 

What has been your biggest takeaway from your experience?

Mohammed’s biggest takeaway from the experience with Powered Tutoring is the importance of resilience and adaptability. They informed us that building a business comes with unexpected challenges, from managing people to refining your services, and it is crucial to stay focused on your goals while being flexible enough to adapt. Most importantly, they have learned that genuine passion for what you do—like helping students succeed - can carry you through even the toughest moments and make the journey incredibly rewarding.

Running Powered Tutoring has been an incredible journey of growth and learning for Mohammed, both personally and professionally. “From starting with just an idea to now seeing students thrive and achieve their goals, it has been rewarding beyond words. Along the way, I’ve learned the value of perseverance, the impact of effective communication, and how even small wins can build toward something much greater. Where we are now is a testament to hard work and passion. Powered Tutoring continues to evolve, offering personalized and impactful support to students who need it most. We’re also exploring new ways to expand and make learning even more accessible, because I truly believe every student deserves the chance to succeed. This journey has taught me that no challenge is too big when you’re driven by a purpose, and I’m excited to see what’s next for Powered Tutoring.”
