UoB medical graduate Aakash Rai receives Young Innovator Award

Meditask is a start-up created by UoB Medical graduate Dr Aakash Rai. It aims to
improve healthcare experiences for patients by exploring data and technology, whilst simultaneously improving working conditions for clinicians.
The app based service helps 'workflow' which measures the patient journey from start to finish during hospital visits.
The entrepreneur has just been recognised for his ingenuity, receiving a Young Innovator Award 2022/23 from Innovate UK's annual competition.

As part of Young Innovators, Innovate UK have supported 94 High Potential Innovators with each winner receiving a £5,000 grant and one to one business coaching.
Aakash: As a medical student I often wasted many hours searching for clinical skills opportunities, often being at the wrong place at the wrong time. As a doctor, I was overwhelmed with the amount of clinical skills required but found it hard to find medical students who could help. I therefore decided a bridge was needed to help aid this disconnect and also make the process easier to connect doctors with medical students.
So I had developed a wireframe of the idea which demonstrates the functionality. I also have been accepted onto the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Scheme which aids in implementing innovation within the NHS and allows networking with key stakeholders.

In September 2022, I joined the university's UoB Elevate at The Exchange programme for entrepreneurs. I will use funding from the programme to help further develop the mobile application to allow partnerships with medical students.

Furthermore, using the office space will allow us to make tangible strides forward in the business. I will tap into the expert mentorship and join a community of like minded individuals.
With thanks to Dr Aakash Rai
