Two of our engineering students from UoB are in the final of the Engineers in Business Competition 2022

Max Wade and Vanessa Chigariro have been shortlisted to compete in the grand final of the innovative national competition Engineers in Business.

There are 10 finalists remaining in the nationwide competition and the University of Birmingham is the only university to have representation from two remaining entrants.

Max and Vanessa, who both study Mechanial Engineering, will attend the Champion of Champions Final on 28 October in London with a chance to win a share of the £10,000 prize pot.

Their journey began with the first phase of the competition being held by the University of Birmingham. Each UK university member runs its own internal competition before the winners are put forward into the national competition. This year UoB were able to match fund the gift of £3000 awarded by the fellowship and a pot of £6500 was available for the students.

The internal
UoB Engineers in Business competition was won by Max Wade for his innovative idea to help businesses capture carbon from the atmosphere. Max has been awarded £3,000 to help develop his idea.

In second place and winner of a £2,000 prize were teammates Aryan Parekh and Tushar Rana for their inventive urine test design in the home. In third place and winner of £1,000 was Vanessa Chigariro for her emission free hydrogen train concept.

An additional prize of £500 has been given to Louis Akaatenger for his online video application.

The Engineers in Business Competition organised by the B-Enterprising Team was open to students from an engineering discipline. This is part of the wider global champion competition organised by Engineers in Business Fellowship which champions business education for engineers and supports universities by giving them grants to award prizes to students who develop ground-breaking ideas.

In 2021, University of Birmingham student Joe Garrett also made it to the grand final showdown. See Joe's blog here

Looking ahead, we would like to wish Max and Vanessa all the very best in the grand final, if you’d like to view them their entries can be found here and to get behind them and vote please use this link https://lnkd.in/eUNHjSC2
