Innovation through engineering: University of Birmingham competition winners announced

The winners have been announced for our innovative engineering competition for University of Birmingham students.

The UoB Engineers in Business competition was won by Max Wade (Mechanical Engineering) for his innovative idea to help businesses capture carbon from the atmosphere. Max has been awarded £3,000 to help develop his idea.

In second place and winner of a £2,000 prize are teammates Aryan Parekh and Tushar Rana for their inventive urine test design in the home.

In third place and winner of £1,000 is Vanessa Chigariro for her emission free hydrogen train concept.

An additional prize of £500 has been given to Louis Akaatenger (Mechanical Engineering) for his online video application.

The winners will now be put forward into the national competition known as 'Champion of Champions', competing against students from other UK universities for a chance to vie for a £10,000 cashpot and industry support.

The Engineers in Business Competition organised by the B-Enterprising Team is open to students from an engineering discipline. This is part of the wider global champion competition organised by Engineers in Business Fellowship which champions business education for engineers and supports universities by giving them grants to award prizes to students who develop ground-breaking ideas.

In 2021, University of Birmingham student Joe Garrett made it to all the way to the grand final showdown. See Joe's blog here

We would like to wish all our UoB Entrants the best in this year's national competition. Good luck!
