Starting a tutoring business while studying at uni - Daniel D'Silva

Daniel D'Silva is studying a Master of Public Health at the University of Birmingham and he has co-founded  a tutoring business called Tutors for Life. Daniel recently applied for the university's Start-Up Fund and gave an insight into their business.

Daniel: Tutors for Life's provide a platform for students to connect with attentively selected tutors. All our tutors go through a difficult selection process. This process allows us to analyse their teaching ability to ensure our platform provides only the best quality tuition. We have many exciting plans for the near future. I cannot reveal all of them just yet but watch this space for updates!

Shannon [Thomson-Parry] and I set up "Tutors for Life" as we share a passion for learning and teaching others. We saw many students struggling in light of the pandemic. We realised we had the skills and experience to create a company that supports pupils in need.

We believed by advertising our idea to other graduates, we could form a small team that
shared the same goal: to make a positive impact on students lives. We knew that forging a company based on high-quality tuition was not only possible but could also produce a viable business model.

Running our business positions us to be the systematic change we hope to see. We also get to experience first-hand, the positive impact we have on others lives. We have yet to find an aspect of creating a company that we dislike

What do we know now that we didn't from the start? There are many things - our major hurdle came when we started marketing. Thankfully we had connections who were willing to help us in these areas.

We've got to know similar-minded individuals and have formed connections that will allow us to prosper in all our future ventures. We're at the very early stages of development with lots of plans. Find out more about us by visiting our website: www.tutorsforlife.com

With thanks to Daniel D'Silva
