Hello to all freshers who have joined the University of Birmingham. And of course, hi to those of you looking to find out what our enterprising students have been up to!

Over the next few weeks, find out what's on. Join a student society, sign up for volunteering, come up with your own idea to action, or go for that opportunity you're interested in. The key thing is to just go for it. Explore it. Try it. Learn the skills as you go along.

University is a great place to get involved in activities you may not have done at school, home or work. It's a positive environment; you meet new friends and with a bit of time management and organisation, you will find the time.

Forget the rain; ignore the darker evenings. Join in the fun and get involved.
