University of Birmingham wins 2 awards for innovation AND enterprise

We've just received good news! We've been successful at The Midlands Business Awards 2016, winning Midlands University of the Year in not one but two categories!

Midlands University of the Year – Innovation
Judge’s Comments:  Innovation is part of their culture and they show real passion and could demonstrate their success.

Midlands University of the Year – Enterprise
Judge’s Comments:  Not just about the start-up's - it's all about preparation for real life. This ethos is central to everything they do.

The Innovation award was a Careers Network entry, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to supporting the Digbeth Social Enterprise Quarter (DESQ).

Innovative activities linked to the Quarter and its social enterprises, e.g. the Santander Enterprising Internships Programme were praised, as it was clear that our students are making real societal impact, helping to grow the sector.

The Enterprise Award was an institutional collaboration: a partnership between academics, student services, the University’s Research & Innovation Services, and Alumni Development. Over the last year, we have continued to underpin enterprise capability building for students, researchers, entrepreneurs and SMEs, building a network/ecosystem of support with small businesses, developing and utilising their experience to design content and assist with delivery.

What excited the judges was how students have introduced their own ideas within their courses of study, developing a peer-led curriculum with a pioneering course structure.
